Imagine if 50% of America used 1/2 the oil a year as they do now just in their own cars. That’s a whole lot of oil not having to be recycled, disposed of…oh, and purchased from foreign oil reserves.

I can sit here all day and rant about how great Amsoil is or hey in general any synthetic oil. I can even give you loads of data to back up my claims and charts and PDF’s and things for you to oooh and aaah over. And hey, I’m probably going to do that at some point anyway. Especially if you ask me.

But what I want to talk about is two things that really impact you in our current times as a consumer. Things that you can make a difference about.

  • Reliance on foreign oil
  • Green Initiatives

Oil Supplies
Without going down the political path of the Iraq war and the middle east, lets make this conversation really simple. America needs to reduce its reliance on foreign oil sources. Better yet, America needs to reduce its consumption of fossil based oils and fuels. Synthetics are a key part of both those statements. By switching to a Synthetic based product like Amsoil you reduce the amount of oil you personally use every year. Lots of people doing this, makes a huge difference, so yes you do count! You can reduce the amount of oil changes you have to go in for every year (I change once annually filters and Oil) to either 7200 miles (if you are paranoid) or to annual (25k miles). Even if we ignore the cost savings portion of this, you will reduce the amount of fossil oil you use annually by 100%. Thats much less reliance on foreign and domestic oil supplies.

Green Initiatives
Lets take the same statement above and apply it to the whole world of “Green Initiatives”. Green isn’t about saving money, its about reducing impact to our environment. Many companies spend lots of money on Green initiatives. In some cases they do save money, in some cases they don’t…money isn’t the point. Now imagine what little slice of Green you can help out with by something as simple as switching to Amsoil Synthetics, and you save money. By reducing your number of oil changes per year from 4 to 1 you greatly reduce the amount of oil that has to be thrown out and handled by recycling companies or waste companies. Seems like a no brainer eh? An easy way to do your small part. Imagine if 50% of America used 1/2 the oil a year as they do now just in their own cars. That’s a whole lot of oil not having to be recycled.

I hope these two points are things that sink in to your life, as they are things you can personally do that make a difference. And at the same time save you money, hassle and time.

Now some of you I know don’t change your own oil, don’t want to and don’t care. That’s still no excuse not to switch. Contact me by e-mail or just give me a call. I’ll show you how you can buy through American Synthetic and have your oil drop shipped to you. Throw the box in your trunk when it arrives and still go down to your local shop and have them change your oil for you…with your oil. Of course you still pay for some person to change your oil but you will only have to do that once a year. Less hassle, less money.

SAE 20W-50 Synthetic Motorcycle Oil (MCV) V-Twin air cooled

AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oils have been reformulated with new high performance additive technology that provides even greater multi-functional benefits for the special requirements of motorcycle applications. These independent and exclusive new AMSOIL formulations provide second-to-none viscosity protection for hot-running American and foreign motorcycle engines, transmissions and primary chaincases. Performance specifications include: API SG, SL/CF; JASO MA

AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic Motorcycle Oil
(MCV) recommended for Harley-Davidson, Buell, Victory, Ducati, BMW, Aprilla and Triumph motorcycles calling for a 15W-50 or 20W-50 viscosity, providing superior protection in engines, transmissions and primary chaincases.

Improved Transmission Protection
AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oils not only provide superior protection for motorcycle engines, they also provide superior gear protection, meeting API GL-1 gear lube viscosity requirements. AMSOIL Synthetic 10W-40 Motorcycle Oil (MCF) meets SAE 80W-90 gear lube requirements, while AMSOIL Synthetic 20W-50 Motorcycle Oil (MCV) meets SAE 90 gear lube viscosity requirements.

Viscosity is the most important characteristic of a lubricant. Motorcycle gears create a shearing effect that causes permanent oil viscosity loss. This thinning effect reduces the oil’s ability to prevent metal-to-metal contact and wear. The stability and natural operating temperature ranges of the premium synthetic base stocks used to formulate AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oils eliminate shear and reduce wear. AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oils exhibit absolute shear stability as measured by the Kurt Orbon shear stability test.

The high temperatures and tight tolerances common to motorcycle applications also affect viscosity. The High Temperature/High Shear (HTHS) Test (ASTM D-4683) measures a lubricant’s viscosity under severe high temperature and shear conditions. The more resistant an oil is to high temperature viscosity loss, the better it protects, and even a HTHS difference of 0.1 cP makes a significant difference.

AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oils exhibit higher HTHS viscosities than competing conventional and synthetic motorcycle oils. As seen in the graphs, AMSOIL Synthetic 20W-50 and 10W-40 Motorcycle Oils displayed the highest High Temperature/High Shear viscosities in their respective test groups, providing motorcycle engines and transmissions operating in the harshest conditions with superior protection against wear and viscosity loss and eliminating the need for separate gear case oils as recommended by some competitors. Synthetic 10W-40 may also be used in two-cycle transmissions.

Reduces Friction, Heat and Wear
In high heat conditions, engine protection is not sacrificed with AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oil. It has the best high temperature film strength (see High Temperature Viscosity Protection graph below) of all oils tested and contains a heavy treatment of anti-wear additives to reduce wear regardless of the operating conditions (see Wear Comparison graph on reverse). AMSOIL MCV is thermally (heat) stable and contains maximum levels of oxidation inhibitor additives. It is extremely resistant to breakdown and engineered to prevent damaging sludge and carbon deposits for superior engine cleanliness.
APPLICATIONS
AMSOIL Synthetic 20W-50 Motorcycle Oil is recommended for air or liquid cooled 4-stroke engines. It meets SAE 90, API GL-1 gear oil requirements and is recommended for transmissions and primary chaincases. AMSOIL MCV is recommended for Harley Davidson®, Buell®, Victory®, Ducati®, Aprilia®, BMW®, Triumph® and other motorcycles where 15W-50 or 20W-50 engine oils or SAE 90, GL-1 gear oils are used. Not recommended for shaft drive hypoid gears or where an API GL-4 or GL-5 gear oil is required.

MIXING AMSOIL
AMSOIL Synthetic 20W-50 Motorcycle Oil is compatible with conventional and synthetic motor oils; however, mixing oils may shorten the oil life expectancy and reduce the performance benefits. AMSOIL does not support extended drain intervals where oils have been mixed.
Aftermarket oil additives are not recommended for use with AMSOIL motorcycle oil.

SERVICE LIFE
For “on road” use in engines, transmissions and primary chaincases, change AMSOIL MCV and AMSOIL engine oil filter at twice the motorcycle manufacturer change interval or one year, whichever comes first. Change other brand oil filters at standard intervals. For “off road” use in engines, transmissions and primary chaincases, change AMSOIL MCV at the standard motorcycle manufacturer change interval. For racing or in engines modified from the original factory design, no change interval recommendation is made. Oil changes are at the owner’s discretion.

Bailout General Motors Debunk the Out-Dated 3000 Mile Oil Change Auto Experts Debunk the Out-Dated 3000 Mile Oil Change To help save drivers' time and money, while being environmentally efficient, auto experts are busting industry myths on car maintenance. In fact, most manufacturers recommend more than 5000 miles between oil changes instead of the traditional 3000. Making this adjustment can save eight to ten gallons of oil a year and put as much as $76 back in your pocket. Following new recommendations can also help improve the environment. In some cases, just one gallon of improperly disposed motor oil can contaminate one million gallons of drinking water. Here are some more of the most common maintenance myths that have been adjusted based on new vehicle technologies: – Tune-ups. Today's engines have computer-monitored systems that still need to be checked but don't need a traditional tune-up every few thousand miles. – Wheel Alignment. Although it's important to keep tires properly maintained and inflated, it's not always necessary to have them aligned every time they are rotated. – Unnecessary services. Routine maintenance services such as fuel injector cleaning and transmission fluid flushes aren't necessary as often anymore.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
AMSOIL Synthetic Heavy Duty Diesel & Marine Motor Oil (AME) is a premium diesel oil providing excellent performance in all types of diesel engines where highly effective control of wear and deposits is vital. Built with heavy-duty dispersant/detergent additives, its 12 TBN chemistry neutralizes acids and controls soot thickening from EGR and blow-by to protect against corrosion, cylinder bore polishing (wear) and varnish/sludge deposits. AMSOIL AME resists heat and breakdown better than conventional petroleum oils for long lasting performance and protection.

AMSOIL, the leader in automotive synthetic lubrication, produced the world’s first API qualified synthetic motor oil in 1972. Trust the extensive experience of AMSOIL The First in Synthetics ® to do the best job protecting your engine.

Extends Drain Intervals
AMSOIL AME can extend drain intervals far beyond those recommended for conventional petroleum oils. Its unique synthetic formulation and long drain additive system deliver the best possible engine protection, cleanliness and performance over extended drain intervals, reducing vehicle maintenance and waste oil disposal costs.

Advanced Soot and Wear Control Formula
AMSOIL Synthetic Heavy Duty Diesel & Marine Motor Oil is heavily fortified with detergent/dispersant additives and is naturally resistant to soot. It keeps soot particles suspended independently, preventing them from attaching together to form larger, wear-causing particles. Viscosity increase is minimized and soot related wear is controlled.

Maximizes Fuel Economy, Reduces Oil Consumption and Emissions
AMSOIL AME has lower volatility (evaporation) than con-ventional petroleum oils. Because less oil vapor passes into the combustion chamber, oil consumption and emissions are reduced. Lower volatility helps AMSOIL AME retain its viscosity after high temperature service for excellent fuel economy and continued dependable protection.

Excellent Cold Flow Properties
AMSOIL AME remains fluid down to -44°F. It eases cold weather starting and provides vital start-up lubrication to prevent engine wear. AME outperforms conventional 15W-40 petroleum oils and greatly minimizes the impact of cold weather operation.

Amsoil Motor OilHigh fuel prices are a hot topic of conversation. Significant price jumps over the last year have become an area of concern for motorists and businesses everywhere. Many consumers are taking steps to reduce the hit to their pocketbooks by consuming less fuel. Fuel efficiency has become a significant selling point for auto dealers. Fuel inefficient SUV sales have slumped, while fuel efficient economy car sales are on the upswing. Cities experience greater interest in public transportation, and car pools are gaining popularity.

Choosing AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oil over a conventional oil also provides fuel savings.

Fluid Friction
Refined petroleum-based lubricants are composed of irregular molecules of various sizes. As they slip across each other, excess friction is created. The vehicle’s engine must burn extra fuel to overcome this friction, decreasing fuel economy. AMSOIL synthetic lubricants, on the other hand, contain only smooth, uniform molecules that easily slip across each other, reducing internal friction within the lubricant, allowing fuel to be diverted from the task of overcoming friction to reaching the drivetrain, decreasing overall fuel consumption.

Friction Between Moving Parts
Oil viscosity plays a critical role in reducing friction. If viscosity is too high, it contributes to fluid friction, while an oil with a viscosity that is too low cannot adequately maintain a complete, unbroken oil film between engine surfaces. Without this film, excess friction is created between moving parts, increasing wear and fuel consumption. AMSOIL synthetic lubricants maintain their viscosity for an unbroken oil film between engine parts that reduces friction and decreases fuel consumption.

Thermal and Oxidative Stability
Some of the chemicals in conventional lubricants break down at temperatures within the normal operating range of many vehicle and equipment components, coating components with varnish, deposits and sludge and leaving the oil thick and difficult to pump. This higher viscosity oil reduces engine and fuel efficiency because components must expend extra energy, and extra fuel, to do their jobs. Because AMSOIL synthetic lubricants do not contain these volatile chemicals, they resist thermal and oxidative breakdown. Components stay clean, oil viscosity remains constant and fuel efficiency remains high.

Volatization
Conventional lubricants also are susceptible to volatility. When an oil’s lighter molecules volatize, or burn off, during hot operating conditions, oil viscosity increases even more, again reducing fuel economy. AMSOIL synthetic lubricants with their uniformly sized molecules resist volatization much better than conventional lubricants, maintain their viscosities and allow more fuel to be used for vehicle propulsion to improve fuel economy.

How Much Can Be Saved With AMSOIL?
Using AMSOIL synthetic motor oils, gear lubes and drivetrain fluids can have a profound impact on fuel economy. It’s generally accepted within the industry that an average passenger car can conservatively decrease its fuel consumption by two to five percent by switching to synthetic lubricants. Many AMSOIL customers report even larger gains in fuel economy. According to data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, American vehicles consumed almost 75 billion gallons of gasoline in 2003. If all these vehicles switched to AMSOIL synthetic lubricants and realized a five percent fuel economy improvement, the U.S. would save 3.75 billion gallons of fuel. At a pump price of $2.30 a gallon, this equates to a savings of more than $8.7 billion.

Bureau of Transportation Statistics data also indicates the average passenger vehicle used 550 gallons of gasoline in 2003. Gasoline expenses can be a significant portion of the average family’s budget, especially with today’s prices. At $2.30 a gallon, 550 gallons of gas costs $1265.00. A five percent fuel economy improvement would save 27.5 gallons of gasoline and yield $63.25 a year in fuel savings. That’s enough to cover the price of a year’s supply of AMSOIL synthetic motor oil and Ea Oil Filters, with money left over.

In addition to fuel savings, AMSOIL synthetic lubricants also allow motorists to reduce oil usage through extended drain intervals, all while significantly reducing friction and wear, improving engine performance and extending equipment life.

Once life and automobiles were both so simple and uncomplicated and times were good. The engine in your car was big and blocky and you saw instantly where the plugs were located. You could check hoses and fluids without disconnecting half the motor first. When you had to get gas, you had one or two choices and there was always someone there, smiling and filling the tank for youâ?¦.and checking the oil. If you happened to need a little oil to top it off and you only had two types of oil that were available for all vehicles.

During this wonderful .and not too modern, days in the past when you had to select one type of oil you would choose either Type A or Type F, depending on what you were driving. Automakers believed in simplicity then too. If you had a Ford and you knew how to spell the name, then you knew that you needed Type F oil. The Type oil pretty much covered any other machine requiring oil during those years.

Today there are shelves that display dozens of oils, a customer can walk into an auto store and find specific oil that has been created for almost every car company. If your car has an automatic transmission then it is critical that you know which of these oils your car requires.

If the wrong type of oil is added to an automatic transmission, it can create some shifting problems. Any problem involving shifting only heightens the stress of the gears. Far worse than a shifting problem, is the fact that you could end up damaging your transmission. There have been cars that had to have the entire transmission removed and a new one installed due to incorrect oil products.

The old Type A -transmission oil has undergone a complete transformation over the years and is now known as ATF or Dexron Automatic Transmission Fluid. ATF oil has gone through steady changes and improvements, but it remains a very dependable and quality car additive.

Type A Transmission Fluid was first marketed as Dexron and this product soon gave way to Dexron II .This changed once again to became Dexron IIE in the 90s.This version had extra performance enhancers which were used to improve the viscosity of the oil.

It was seen that the additions of enhancers were very useful for achieving better performance with the shifter and transmission solenoids. The shifter solenoids were computer controlled and the ones in the transmission were controlled by pressure. Later in the 90s, Dexron IIE was reformulated and introduced as Dexron III, which is the one that is presently used.

At least there is an easy answer to the query about which type of oil to use in many of today’s automatic t transmissions. Regardless of the designation (II, IIE or III), Dexron III is available today for any vehicle that requires a Dexron formula. Dexron III can be substituted for any of its earlier relatives.

Dexron has become an industry standard for almost all of the automakers. The entire production line of General Motors cars and trucks require this type of oil. Even automobiles that are produced by foreign manufacturers use Dexron. This oil is also put into Fords and the Chrysler Vehicles that were made through 96. This multipurpose workhorse oil has even been used in power steering units and hydraulic machinery.

Ford autos and trucks up until 1996 were using the Type F oil but so were some other manufacturers. The addition of some special ingredients made Type F oil the perfect match to balance the friction created in the automatic transmissionâ??s clutch plates.

One of the cautions that came about the Type F oil was an alert for users so that they would become aware of the strength and concentration of this one oil. The added boosters to the Type F oil made it so strong that 1L of Type F could be added to 5 L of Dixon oil and all of the oil would have the characteristic qualities of Type F oil.

In some cars, the Type F oil would noticeably slow down and create a drag in the transmissionâ??s smoothly functioning gears. The gears would have to work harder to get the job done. Consumers need to be aware that the MERCON ATF and the Type F oil are not compatible at all.

Although Chrysler has always had their own ATF specifications, they have also listed Dexron oil as an acceptable replacement. That changed The Honda vehicles use engine oil for automatic transmissions in a number of their cars. There is an automatic transmission that is found in cars in Europe and Asia that only uses ESSO LT71141 or T-IV ATF. There are a number of synthetic oils that are being marketed today and you should always check for compatibility before using.

By 1997, Chrysler began to use ATF+3 oil. This oil can be substituted for ATF+2, ATF PLUS Type 7176 ATF. This is a type of oil that is used by many of the Mitsubishi and Hyundai models.

Most drivers no longer change their own vehicleâ??s oil and the garages and mechanics are familiar with the specs and requirements of cars and trucks. If someone should have to add oil for some reason, they can look in the ownerâ??s manual and it will list what kinds of oil and how much is required for your particular auto. Dealerships and most auto shops will be helpful and you can check online if all else has failed to produce the information that you need.

Car hobbyists may remember that todayâ??s automatic transmission was originally brought to the market by the Oldsmobile Company. It was quite unusual and more of a curiosity when it was first debuted in public. That cumbersome 3 speed metal hulk bears no resemblance to its compact, high tech descendant, but the Oldsmobile Company was responsible for the prototype and the first working models that were being driven in public before WWII.
